Bio
From 1 October 2022, Mirjam Sombroek van Doorm (1968) is Professor of Law and Health at the Institute of Private Law at Leiden ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ (The Netherlands). On 26 April 2024 she delivered her inaugural address. At Leiden ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ she teaches health law in the master’s programme, and the interdisciplinary minor on child abuse. She also teaches health law at the Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne and the Université Paris II Panthéon-Assas. She supervises theses in the field of health law, youth law & children’s rights. Porf. Sombroek van Doorm is also actively involved in postgraduate education, and frequently gives presentations and interviews. At this moment she is also supervising several PhD-students.
Additionally, she is member of the Dutch Health Council, acts as a disciplinary judge at the Regional Disciplinary Court for Healthcare in Amsterdam, and is a member of the Dutch Sports Council.
She is a co-author and member of an editorial board of several textbooks.
Professor Sombroek van Doorm represents Leiden ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ in the Self Steering Committee One Health of Una Europa (a collaboration between eleven leading European research universities).
From 2019 till 2023, she was a member of the Faculty Board of Leiden Law School at Leiden ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ.
Professor Sombroek van Doorm joins the UC Law SF Faculty in 2025 as a visiting professor to teach the course: Right to health from a human rights and children’s rights perspective.
